The Gypsies are on an adventure again! This time we went to a new booming resort called Mainit Sulfuric Hot Spring a place located in the innermost part of Maco, Compostela Valley Province. This spring is also near the crater of an active volcano called Mt. Leonard Kniazeff that helps the water to become “Mainit” a Visayan dialect word for hot.
According to studies, bathing on a hot spring provides health benefits, it helps reduce stress, boost your immune system, treat some skin infections, keeps your skin smooth and healthy and improves blood circulation. No wonder why guests and locals enjoy the experience in bathing here.
One of the highlights of this resort are the wooden beds placed near the rock formation. This is intended for those guests and locals who want to experience a massage service in a whole new set-up. The price usually ranges to Php100-Php250 depending on the duration as well as the part of your body you want them to massage.
You can also observe some mini caves in the are that you can explore for those who have a high tolerance for heat and wants a free sauna experience. This formation is due to the mineral deposits that runs through the water from the mountains.
A gentle reminder for first timers, the temperature there is like a boiling water so I would suggest allowing your body to adjust by feeling the steam in the cottage area. Then slowly soak your feet on the water near the entrance area for a couple of minutes before approaching the inner part of the spring or before a bath. Lastly, don’t forget to hydrate yourself while enjoying the steamy and hot Mainit Hot Spring!
HOW TO GET THERE!
Unfortunately, I can’t give you any specific details of the route going to this place but based on the information I got from Travelers Book Updates site below are the options on how to get there.
Option 1: The cheapest way to reach this place, you need to take a bus from Davao City Terminal that is bound to Tagum City (1 hour ride), once you reach Tagum your next ride is to take a jeep bound to Masara Mining (Apex Mining Company), remember to inform the Jeepney Driver that you are going to visit Mainit Hot Spring and that he will drop you on the exact place. Traveling by Jeep will take at least 1 hour.
Option 2: From Tagum City ride a bus bound to Nabunturan. Tell the conductor or driver to drop you in Mawab Terminal. From there hire a Motorcycle which is commonly known as “Habal-habal” to take you to Mainit Sulfuric Hot Spring.
